I met Dr. Cragg at the 2004 St. Louis Marathon Expo. At the time, I was dealing with heavy pain from my IT Band and I was unable to run the race. Dr. Cragg gave a few pointers that I immediately started using and invited me for a free consultation. Shortly after meeting Dr. Cragg, I also met Dr. Owens and Tracy during a Triathlete Injury Prevention Seminar at REI. A couple of weeks after meeting them, I made my first appointment.
I started having IT Band problems late 2004 while in training for the 2004 Chicago Marathon which I completed in 3:53:49 (PR). Before going to see Dr. Cragg, I went to see two Orthopedic Surgeons and I also went to physical therapy. Unfortunately, I was not getting the results I wanted in a timely fashion.
My IT Band issues started as a result of many issues: too much training, underdeveloped muscles, lack of stretching ... The pain in late 2004 forced me to stop running altogether (not a pleasant thought).
Since I started coming to the office things have changed. The staff started doing Active Release Technique on my band (although very painful, it helped a great deal with the tension on the band and the pain while running). I also started working many muscles including my core and going to yoga classes. Treatment with them had allowed me to continue training and competing through the triathlon season.
